CELEBRATIONS HAWAIIN STYLE FOR SUCCESS OF
FLOWER 125 HEALTH PROGRAMME

Palm trees, flower garlands and celebrities from down under came together to celebrate the achievements of schools and young people who take part in the programme.
The Hawaii 125 event was held on the 12th July at the Hubs, Sheffield Hallam University Students Union. Everyone entered into the spirit, dressed up in their best summer gear, decorated themselves in flower garlands and sampled tropical cocktails and healthy summery food.
Two former stars of the hit soap, Neighbours, Ben Nicholas aka Stingray Timmins and Kyal Marsh aka Boyd Hoyland joined the young people, facilitators and VIP’s from Sheffield PCT and the CYPD to make it a night to remember. Boyd and Stingray presented the young people with certificates and stayed to have their photographs taken with everyone. (Have a look at our gallery of photographs). The young people could hardly believe that they were actually there and were so “normal” and friendly. The healthy schools team became quite star-struck and enjoyed themselves as much as anyone.
Fir Vale School steel band played a medley of Caribbean music at the beginning of the event while everyone tucked into the food and drink. The Studio Dance Company provided further entertainment with a hip-hop performance and demonstrated that vigorous physical activity can be bags of fun.
Side show stalls of a coconut shy, limbo dancing and hoola-hooping kept everyone interested while they were waiting to get autographs have their photographs taken with the celebrities. The evening was finished off with a summer disco.
Someone mentioned that it is the 10th anniversary of the Flower 125 Health Programme in 2009 and wanted to know how we were planning to celebrate and when it would be!!!!!! We’ve only just recovered from this year’s event!!!! If you have any ideas about the next celebration event to be held please get in touch with Julie Roberts, tel: 0114 3051031 (we were thinking of something during the day this time!)
