The main aim of the Schools Sports Partnerships is to enhance the take up of sporting opportunities by 5 to 16 year olds by increasing the percentage of school children who spend a minimum of two hours each week on high quality PE and school sport, within and beyond the curriculum, to 85% by 2008.

These are broken down into seven objectives:

  • To increase participation in high quality PE
  • To increase participation in high quality out of school hours learning
  • To increase participation in high quality informal activity
  • To increase participation in high quality competition and performance
  • To improve attitude, behaviour and attendance in PE, sport and whole school
  • To increase attainment and achievement in and through PE, out of school hours learning and sport
  • To increase participation in community based sport and improved quality of community life

Check out their websites to read more about their successes and what resources they can offer to your school.

Physical Activity encompasses a wide range of options including yoga. Pete Gill, aka Yoga Pete, is now working in a number of schools across Sheffield including specialised workshops in special schools.

Yoga has proven popular in schools because of the positive impact it has on the emotional health of pupils, particularly around exam time!

Yoga Pete is CRB checked and is on the Sheffield City Council payroll facilitating fee payment. Yoga Pete charges £30 an hour. His website is www.yogashalasheffield.com
